Practical Support for Bird Owners and Professional Collections
Whether you need help with a specific bird at home or support for an entire bird of prey department, our consultation visits provide practical, situation-specific guidance at your own property or workplace.
Visits can be tailored around individual management and training concerns, routine practical procedures, staff development, operational practices or preparation for Raptor Awards certification.
Support Built Around Your Situation
Not every problem can be solved through a standard course or a general answer online. Bird management, training and husbandry decisions often depend on the individual bird, its environment, its history and the people responsible for its care.
Our home and site consultation services allow us to assess the situation directly, discuss the outcome you are trying to achieve and provide practical guidance suited to your circumstances.
Each visit is arranged individually. The content, duration and cost will depend on the location, number of birds, number of people involved and the type of support required.
Service options
Home Visits for Private Bird Owners
Home visits are intended for people who already own a bird of prey and would benefit from practical support in the bird’s normal environment.
A home visit may be suitable for:
- Help with a particular management or training problem
- Reviewing daily routines and handling practices
- Assistance with weighing and condition monitoring
- Equipment inspection and furniture fitting
- Fitting or replacing anklets, jesses, swivels or other furniture
- Beak or talon coping where appropriate
- Reviewing accommodation and equipment
- Advice on feeding, records and general management
- Help developing a structured training plan
- Support with a bird that has developed an unwanted behaviour
- Guidance before progressing to free flight
- Practical tuition using your own bird
The visit will be focused on the specific concerns discussed before booking. Where necessary, we may recommend further training, veterinary involvement or changes to the bird’s management before particular work is attempted.
Important note
Home visits are educational and practical consultations. They do not replace veterinary diagnosis or treatment. Any bird showing signs of illness, injury or significant health concern should be assessed by a suitably qualified avian or raptor veterinarian.
While there is no specific set price, our most basic call out fee for private keepers starts at £60. Consultation visits are priced individually because every enquiry is different.
The quotation may take into account:
- Travel distance and travel time
- Length of the visit
- Number of birds involved
- Number of staff or participants
- Complexity of the issue
- Equipment or materials required
- Whether written recommendations are requested
- Whether the visit includes formal training or assessment
- Whether additional visits are likely to be required
Submitting an enquiry does not commit you to booking. We will discuss your requirements and provide a cost estimate before arranging the visit.

Site consultations are available for zoo-licensed facilities and other organisations that manage birds of prey, including farm parks, theme parks, visitor attractions, falconry centres and small animal collections.
Visits can be arranged for a single issue or developed into a wider training and management programme.
Site consultation services may include:
- Review of bird management and husbandry practices
- Accommodation and equipment consultation
- Assessment of handling and training procedures
- Staff training days
- Practical bird handling and equipment workshops
- Review of weighing, feeding and record-keeping systems
- Consultation on training plans and behavioural concerns
- Support with free-flight training and recall procedures
- Review of staff competence and development needs

- Delivery or coordination of staff Raptor Awards training and certification
- Practical coaching for new or less experienced staff
- Review of departmental routines and operational consistency
- Support developing written procedures, checklists and training records

The consultation can be adapted to the size of the collection, the number of staff involved and the outcomes the organisation wants to achieve.
